Press Spin to pick a kind of restaurant.
📍 Find near me“Find near me” opens Google Maps — this page never asks for your location.

📍 Open in MapsYour list stays in this browser. Shared links contain only the names on the wheel.
“Where should we eat?” is a simple question that somehow takes twenty minutes. The random restaurant picker answers it in one spin. Think of it as a restaurant random generator that works with your own list: add the places you like, spin, and go. If you’d rather choose a dish than a place, try the food randomizer instead.
How to use the random restaurant picker
- Pick a tab. Use My restaurants when you already have places in mind. Use Restaurant type when you’re open to anything and just need a direction.
- Build your wheel or spin the types. On My restaurants, type 2 to 24 restaurant names, one per line, and the wheel redraws as you type. On Restaurant type, the wheel already holds about 30 kinds of places, from pizza place, ramen shop and taqueria to diner, steakhouse, sushi bar, BBQ joint, food truck and brunch café.
- Spin and go. Press SPIN. A winner from your list gets an Open in Maps button, and a winning type gets a button that searches Google Maps for that kind of place near you. On My restaurants, press Save list to keep your restaurants in this browser, or Copy wheel link to share the wheel.
Building a good restaurant list
A restaurant wheel is only as good as the places on it. A balanced list usually has three kinds of options:
- Reliable favorites. The places you’d happily eat at any week. Two or three keep every spin safe.
- New spots. The ramen shop you keep driving past or the place a friend recommended. A random restaurant pick is the easiest way to finally try them.
- Budget tiers. Mix cheap eats with a treat or two, or keep separate wheels for weeknights and special occasions. Copy wheel link makes a link that opens that exact wheel, so you can bookmark one for each budget.
Six to ten options is a good size. Fewer gets repetitive, and many more makes it likely you’ll land somewhere nobody is in the mood for. Remove places that have closed or that nobody enjoys anymore.
Restaurant roulette rules for groups
Office lunch. Make it a weekly wheel of lunch. Each person adds one place within walking distance, you share the wheel link in the team chat, and one person spins. If you’re choosing dishes rather than places, the lunch wheel is a better fit. For a quick drive-thru, use the fast food wheel.
Date night. Each person adds two restaurants. Spin once, and each of you gets one veto. If a veto is used, the next spin is final.
Friends. For bigger groups, try elimination: spin, remove the winner, and keep going until one restaurant is left. The last one standing is where you’re going.
Total indecision. Spin the Restaurant type wheel first to pick a kind of food, then let everyone agree on one nearby place of that type.
Once you’re seated, the next decision is the menu. Our guide on how to choose what to order at a restaurant helps with that part.
Your lists stay private
The restaurant picker doesn’t use accounts or location permission. Your list lives in this browser on this device, and only after you press Save list. Clearing your browser data removes it, so keep a copy in your notes if it took a while to build. Copy wheel link puts your list into the link itself, so anyone you send it to will see the restaurant names on that wheel.

Frequently asked questions
How does restaurant roulette work?
Restaurant roulette means letting chance pick where you eat. Everyone agrees on a list of acceptable places, the wheel spins, and the group goes wherever it lands, with no arguing afterward. Type your restaurants into the My restaurants tab and press SPIN, or switch to Restaurant type if you're open to anything and want the wheel to pick a kind of place instead.
Does this work like Wheel of Lunch?
Wheel of Lunch became a well-known way to let a wheel choose a lunch spot. This page works like a wheel of lunch for your own list: you type the restaurants you actually like, spin, and open the winner in Maps. Because you build the list yourself, it works anywhere, including small towns, office parks and places a directory might miss.
Do I have to share my location?
No. The random restaurant chooser never asks for location permission. Your list is saved only in this browser when you press Save list. Nothing goes to a server. When you tap a Maps button, Google Maps opens with a search, and from that point Google's own settings decide whether it uses your location.
Where should I eat if I can't decide?
Let the restaurant picker decide for you. If you already have a few places in mind, add them to My restaurants and spin once, agreeing in advance that the result is final. If you have no ideas at all, spin the Restaurant type wheel, then use the Maps button to choose the best-reviewed match close to you.
